Characteristics: Large dark spot under dorsal fin (= basidorsal). Black spots on body and fins (not always). Sometimes head and body covered with wart-like swellings. Illicium and Esca: With this species the lure is not be the best character to differ from other species. Illicium (rod) twice as long as 2nd spine. Esca (lure, bait) with flat appendage. The esca of A. multiocellatus can be short, but can also be somewhat longer and laterally compressed. More Information: Antennarius multiocellatus (Longlure or Flagpole Frogfish) belongs to the Antennarius pictus group (Identification Key) and is closely related to Antennarius pardalis but has a longer second dorsal spine. Link to fishbase / Pietsch & Grobecker p.99 Can be confused with: Antennarius pardalis looks nearly the same, often has large, darkly pigmented spots on the belly. Antennarius ocellatus looks similar, but is larger and has a shorter illicium and three large ocelli. |

Merkmale: Grosser schwarzer Fleck unterhalb der 2. Rückenflosse. Kopf und Körper mit dunklen Flecken (nicht immer). Kopf und Körper manchmal mit warzenähnlichen Schwellungen bedeckt. Illicium und Esca: Die Angel und der Köder sind bei dieser Art nicht das beste Merkmal zur Unterscheidung zu andern Arten. Illicium (Angel, Rute) doppelt so lang wie 2. Stachelstrahl. Esca (Köder) mit flachem Anhängsel. Sie kann sowohl kurz als auch etwas länger und flach sein. Zusatzinformationen: Antennarius multiocellatus (Augenfleck Anglerfisch, Vielfleck-Anglerfisch) gehört zur Antennarius pictus Gruppe (Bestimmungsschlüssel) und ist nahe mit Antennarius pardalis verwandt aber hat einen längeren zweiten Stachelstrahl. Link zu fishbase (englisch) / Pietsch & Grobecker S.99 Wird verwechselt mit: Antennarius pardalis sieht fast gleich aus aber hat oft grosse dunkle Flecken auf dem Bauch. Diese Anglerfisch-Art zeigt grosse farbliche Variationen und
kann die Farbe auch über einige Tage hinweg ändern, bis
sie farblich perfekt an seine Umgebung, etwa den Schwämmen
oder Korallen angepasst ist. |

under piers. Mimics sponges and tunicates. Feeds mainly on fishes,
but also crustaceans. Oviparous. |
Flache Riffe, manchmal
unter Bootstegen. Ahmt Schwämme und Seescheiden nach. Ernährt
sich vor allem von Fischen, manchmal auch von Gliederfüssern.
