Prejuveniles of Antennarius radiosus were first identified as a different species because they looked so special. Jungtiere von Antennarius radiosus wurden zuerst als eine andere Art identifiziert bis man herausfand, dass sie ein so genanntes Scutatus Phase durchmachen (Knochenplatten erstrecken sich bis vom Schädel nach hinten bis zu den Kiemendeckeln). Westlicher Atlantik, wurde 2003 auch in den Azoren (Ost-Atlantik) gefangen und vom Departamento de Oceanografia e Pescas, Universidade dos Açores identifiziert.
