Echinophryne reynoldsi (Reynolds' Frogfish) is a small frogfish similar to Echinophryne crassispina but without the many dermal spinules.
This frogfish is found in the following dive areas: in southern Australia, for example around Edithburgh, MacDonnell Sound, Portsea Hole or Port Phillip Bay, Victoria.

Echinophryne reynoldsi (Reynold's Anglerfisch) ist ein kleiner Anglerfisch, ähnlich wie Echinophryne crassispina aber ohne die mit winzigen Stacheln übersähte Haut.
Dieser Anglerfisch ist in den folgenden Tauchgebieten zu finden: Im Süden von Australien, zum Beispiel nach Edithburgh, MacDonnell Sound, Portsea Hole oder Port Phillip Bay, Victoria.

Illicium (rod) slightly longer than 2nd spine and thick, totally reduced small esca (lure, bait).

Can be confused with:
The three species of Echinophryne only differ in the shape of the lure and the length of the dermal spinules and slightly in their habitat and range. Echinophryne mitchelli differs from the other species, that it's skin is yellowish to green. Both Echinophryne mitchelli and Echinophryne crassispina have skin prickly with dermal spinules while Echinophryne reynoldsi has smaller dermal spinules and spots.

Illicium und Esca:
Illicium (Angel, Rute) wenig länger als der zweite Flossenstrahl und dicke, kleine fast nicht vorhandene Esca (Köder).
Besonderes Verhalten:
Fortpflanzungsverhalten ähnlich derjenigen von Rhycherus filamentosus.

Wird verwechselt mit:
Die drei Arten von Echinophryne unterscheiden sich vor allem im Aussehen der Angel und der Grösse der Hautdornen sowie in ihrem Vorkommen und Lebensräumen. Echinophryne mitchelli unterscheidet sich von den andern beiden Arten dadurch, dass er gelblich bis grün gefärbt ist. Sowohl Echinophryne mitchelli als auch Echinophryne crassispina haben ausgeprägte Hautdornen, bei Echinophryne reynoldsi sind diese kleiner und seine Haut ist mit Flecken bedeckt.

Sometimes large circular slightly darker spots. Juveniles with broad purplish-brown margin along dorsal fin.

Manchmal grosse kreisförmige und etwas dünklere Flecken. Jungtiere haben dicke lila-braune Seitenränder an den Rückenflossen.

Habitat - Echinophryne reynoldsi - Lebensraum

Inshore. In yellow and orange sponges (which match the skin color of Echinophryne reynoldsi) in cave overhangs or exposed. 3-20m.

Küstennähe. Lebt gerne zwischen gelben und orangen Schwämmen (welche der Hautfarbe von Echinophryne reynoldsi entsprechen) in Höhlen oder exponiert. 3-20m.

Range - Echinophryne reynoldsi - Verbreitung

Endemic Subtropical Australia, Western Australia, South Australia (Edithburgh, MacDonnell Sound, Portsea Hole or Port Phillip Bay), Victoria (Port Bay to Lucky Bay). Restricted to this area.

Endemisch subtropisches Australien, West-Australien, Süd-Australien (Edithburgh, MacDonnell Sound, Portsea Hole oder Port Phillip Bucht), Victoria (Port Bucht oder Lucky Bucht). Nur in diesem Gebiet zu finden.
