On our first dive in Burmese waters I found this small frogfish (anglerfish) on a bunch of ascidians. Size ca. 6cm and because of a sponge near by (not on the photo) extremly well camouflaged. What a nice surprise!

Auf unserm ersten Tauchgang in burmesischen Gewässern fand ich diesem winzigen Anglerfisch (ca. 6 cm) sitzend auf einem Bett von Seescheiden. Daneben wuchs ein Schwamm derselben Frabe (nicht auf Bild), so dass er extrem gut getarnt war.

 

 

Size: 10 cm
Habitat: lagoons and seaward reefs from 0-25m. Likes to hide in crevices.
Range: East Africa to Fiji, Taiwan to Australia

Grösse: 10 cm
Vorkommen: Lagunen und Aussenriffe, Seegrasgebiete. Versteckt sich gerne in Spalten.
Verbreitung: Ostafrika bis Fidschi, Taiwan bis Australien

I identified all frogfishes (anglerfishes) to my best knowledge. Frogfishes are specially difficult to identify (see tips for identification) so mistakes are possible of course! Please write to me, if you have any questions. Latin names according to the ITIS Standard Report and Fishbase.
