We found this striped (or striated) frogfish in about 25m depth in hairball, Lembeh straits in northern Sulawesi. I had dived there before and visited it on a liveaboard trip to the Siau islands and also during several day trips from Manado.

The Lembeh Straits are a paradise for somebody who likes frogfishes! I found a painted frogfish, two baby frogfish and this striped frogfish, all at the dive site Hairball! On this photo you can see the typical lure (esca) of this frogfish. When not luring, it can roll it up and move it back and fore so it looks like a worm.

Wir fanden diesen Gestreiften (Harriger) Anglerfisch in ungefähr 25m Tiefe auf schwarzem Sandboden in Hairball in der Lembeh Strasse in Nord-Sulawesi. Ich hatte hier schon früher getaucht, etwa während eines Trips auf einem Tauchboot hinauf zu den Siau Inseln und mit Tagesausflügen von Manado aus.

Lembeh ist ein Tauchparadies für Leute, die sich für versteckte und gut getarnte Fische interessieren wie etwas dieser Anglerfisch. Auf dem Foto sieht man die typische Angel, die wie ein Wurm aussieht und die er zum Angeln vor seinem Maul hin- und herbewegt.

Range: Red Sea, East Africa to Tahiti, West Atlantic, East Atlantic, Japan to New Zealand
